A Look at Loomis's Past
Loomis once had its own post office. However, it closed down in 1933. In 1911, an early settler named Joseph Schroeder (who lived from 1885 to 1931) opened a grocery store. He also worked as the postmaster.
Soon after, Bonaventura Cubalchini (1885–1948) started a cheese factory. This was an important business for the community. By 1915, the railroad removed its station agent in Loomis. This happened because not many trains were stopping there. The old train depot building was gone by the 1970s. The local school in Loomis also closed its doors in the 1990s.
