Count Lope I was an important leader in the County of Pallars during the 10th century. He was a Count, which was like a powerful ruler of a region called a county. Lope I ruled Pallars together with his brother, Isarn, starting in the year 920. He passed away in 948.

Who Was Count Lope I?

Lope I was the son of Raymond I, Count of Pallars and Ribagorza, who was also a powerful count. This made Lope I brothers with Isarn, Bernard I, and Miro of Ribagorza. His family was very involved in leading their lands.

Family and Role

Lope I also had another brother named Ato, who was a Bishop of Pallars. A bishop is a high-ranking religious leader. Lope I, his brother Isarn, and Bernard worked together to protect their lands. They fought against the Moors, who were people from North Africa who had taken control of some areas in Spain. This was a very important job for the counts of that time.

Even though Lope I and Isarn ruled together, it seems Isarn was the main leader. Isarn also lived longer than Lope I. After Lope I passed away, his own sons took over as counts.

Lope I was married to a woman named Goltregoda of Cerdanya. Together, they had several children:
