Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall facts for kids
The Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall is a special person who represents the King or Queen in the county of Cornwall, England. Think of them as the monarch's personal representative in the area. Their main job is to uphold the dignity of the Crown. They also support local community groups and help with royal visits.
Since 1742, all the Lords Lieutenant of Cornwall have also held another important role: Custos Rotulorum of Cornwall. This fancy Latin name means "keeper of the rolls." In the past, this person was in charge of the county's records and documents, especially those related to the justices of the peace. Today, the Lord Lieutenant usually holds both titles.

Deputy Lieutenants
A deputy lieutenant of Cornwall helps the Lord Lieutenant. They are chosen by the Lord Lieutenant. There can be many deputy lieutenants at one time. The number depends on how many people live in the county. They keep their role even if a new Lord Lieutenant is appointed. However, they usually retire when they turn 75 years old.
