Lori Ann Henry was born on March 20, 1966. She is a retired American soccer player. Lori played as a defender. She was also a captain for the United States women's national soccer team.

Lori was a special player. She was the only one from the first national team match. She also played in the 1991 Women's World Cup Championship in China. She was one of only two players to play in many games (double-figures in caps).

Lori Henry's Early Life

Lori Henry grew up near Seattle, Washington. She went to Shorewood High School. This school is in Shoreline, Washington. Lori was a fantastic soccer player there. She played for the T-Birds team.

Playing for the Tar Heels

Lori attended the University of North Carolina. She was there from 1986 to 1989. She helped the Tar Heels women's soccer team. They won three national championships! Lori was chosen as a first team All-America player twice. In 1990, she was also picked for Soccer America's All-Decade Team. This means she was one of the best players of that decade.

Playing for Her Country

Joining the National Team

In 1985, Lori Henry became a member of the very first U.S. women's national soccer team. This was a big moment for women's soccer in America.

Captain and World Champion

She played for the United States women's national soccer team from 1985 to 1991. For three of those years, she was the team's captain. In 1991, Lori was part of the team that made history. They won the first-ever Women's World Cup in China!

Lori Henry's Coaching Career

After her playing career, Lori started coaching. She began as an assistant coach at UNC-Greensboro. Later, she became the head women's soccer coach. She coached at Ohio State University for four years.
