Lori Ann Henry, born on March 20, 1966, is a retired American soccer player. She was a strong defender and even captained the United States women's national soccer team. Lori was a special player because she was the only one from the very first national team game to play in the 1991 Women's World Cup Championship. She was also one of only two players to play in more than ten international games for the team.

Early Life and High School

Lori Henry grew up in the Seattle, Washington area. She went to Shorewood High School in Shoreline, Washington. At Shorewood, she was a fantastic soccer player for her school team, the T-Birds.

College Soccer Success

After high school, Lori attended the University of North Carolina from 1986 to 1989. While playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels, she helped her team win three national championships in women's soccer. Lori was recognized as one of the best players, being chosen for the All-America team twice. In 1990, she was also named to Soccer America's All-Decade Team, which means she was one of the top players of the 1980s.

International Career Highlights

In 1985, Lori Henry became a member of the very first U.S. women's national soccer team. She played for the United States women's national soccer team from 1985 to 1991. For three of those years, she was the team's captain, showing her leadership skills. In 1991, Lori was part of the historic team that won the first-ever Women's World Cup in China. This was a huge achievement for women's soccer in the United States.

Coaching and Teaching

After her playing career, Lori Henry started coaching. She began as an assistant coach at UNC-Greensboro. In 1993, she became the head coach for the women's soccer team at Ohio State University, where she coached for four years. Later, Lori returned to Shoreline, Washington, where she taught physical education at Kellogg Middle School.
