Lorn is a suburb, which is like a neighborhood, located in New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the larger city of Maitland. Lorn sits across the Hunter River from Maitland. The Belmore Bridge connects Lorn to the rest of Maitland.

The Story of Lorn

Lorn has an interesting history that goes back a long time. In 1823, a person named Thomas McDougall received a special gift of land. This land was 360 hectares big and was located right next to the Hunter River. It was also across from a busy village called West Maitland. This large piece of land eventually became known as Lorn.

Years later, in 1911, people started planning to make Lorn a beautiful "Garden Suburb." This meant they wanted to plant lots of trees along the streets and create green spaces. The goal was to make Lorn a very pleasant and green place to live.

By 1923, the McDougall family had divided the land into smaller pieces. This allowed many homes to be built, creating the main residential areas you see in Lorn today. By 1927, Lorn was already famous. People said it was a "model residential area," meaning it was a great example of a well-planned and lovely place to live.
