Los Crudos is an American hardcore punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They were active from 1991 to 1998 and then again from 2006 onwards. All the band members are Latino. They helped other Spanish-speaking punk bands in the U.S. and made the punk scene more diverse.

Los Crudos sing about important issues. These include fairness, fighting against unfair treatment, and helping people who are struggling. They are known for their strong messages. Many people call them one of the best hardcore bands ever.

The Band's Journey

Los Crudos started in the early 1990s. Singer Martin Sorrondeguy and guitarist José Casas formed the band. They were the main members throughout the years. Most of their songs are sung in Spanish. One song, "We're That Spic Band," is in English. They wrote it after someone in the audience used a hurtful term.

Their songs are very political. They talk about things like social class, unfair police actions, and being kind to all people. They also sang about laws that were unfair to immigrants. Martin Sorrondeguy often explained the songs' meanings at concerts. This helped people understand, even if they didn't speak Spanish. Their music is loud, fast, and full of energy. Songs like "We're That Spic Band" and "Asesinos" are some of their most famous. "Asesinos" is about young people who disappeared during unfair governments in Latin America.

Starting in Pilsen

The band's first shows were in Pilsen. This is a Latino neighborhood in Chicago where the band members lived. Many of their songs were first sung there. Martin Sorrondeguy said they sang in Spanish to connect with kids in their neighborhood. In Pilsen, the band also worked with community groups. They helped organizations that focused on health and stopping domestic violence.

Doing It Themselves

Los Crudos believed in a "Do It Yourself" (DIY) approach. This meant they did almost everything themselves. They promoted their own shows and booked their tours. They also recorded their music and even made their own T-shirts. They toured many places, including Mexico, South America, Europe, and Japan. They also toured the U.S. many times.

Their music was released by small, independent record labels. Martin Sorrondeguy even had his own label called Lengua Armada Discos. The band's last main members were bassist Juan Jimenez and drummer Ebro Virumbrales.

After Los Crudos

Los Crudos played their last shows in October 1998. They performed in Pilsen, the neighborhood where they began. After the band broke up, Martin Sorrondeguy became the singer for another band called Limp Wrist. He also made a documentary about Latino punk music. Guitarist Jose now plays in the band I Attack. Drummer Ebro became the singer for Punch in the Face.

Reunions

The band played a surprise reunion show in June 2006. This was at Southkore, a big Latino punk festival in Chicago. Over 400 fans came to see them. They also played reunion shows in 2008 in Texas and California. In 2016, Los Crudos played shows in the Midwest. They also planned tours in the U.K. and many cities in Scandinavia.
