Lost Lake is a small, quiet lake located in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, in the United States. It sits about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) north of the town of Humboldt. This lake is known for being quite hard to spot until you are very close to its shores!

Discovering Lost Lake

Lost Lake covers an area of about 163 acres (66 hectares). It is not a very deep lake, reaching a maximum depth of about 7 feet (2.1 meters). This makes it a shallow body of water.

Why is it Called Lost Lake?

The lake was given its interesting name because of the way it is hidden. The hills surrounding Lost Lake are quite tall and thick. They make the lake almost impossible to see from a distance. You can only really spot it once you have reached its very edge. This is why people started calling it "Lost Lake."
