Humboldt is a small town located in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 579 people lived there. The town has a motto: "Small Town With A Big Heart."

History of Humboldt
The first people settled in the area where Humboldt is now in 1877. The town got its name from Humboldt Township, which is the larger area it's part of. A post office opened in Humboldt in 1889, helping people send and receive mail. The town officially became a recognized community in 1891.
Geography and Location
Humboldt covers a total area of about 1.64 square kilometers (0.63 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
There are two lakes near Humboldt. Lost Lake is about two miles north of the town. Beaver Lake is located one mile to the east.
Humboldt is easy to reach by car because it's close to Interstate 90. You can take exit 379 to get to the town. Interstate 90 is the longest interstate highway in the United States, and Humboldt is located right at its halfway point!
