Louis "Louie" Nelson (born May 28, 1951) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a point guard and shooting guard. Louie Nelson was known for his skills on the court during the 1970s.

Early Life and College Basketball
Louie Nelson was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Compton, California, where he attended Compton High School. After high school, he went to the University of Washington. There, he played college basketball for the Washington Huskies from 1970 to 1973. In 1973, he was recognized as a top player, earning a spot on the First-team All-Pac-8.
NBA Career Highlights
Louie Nelson began his professional career in 1973. He was chosen by the Baltimore Bullets in the 1973 NBA draft. He was the first pick in the second round.
Playing for Different Teams
Before the 1974–75 NBA season, the New Orleans Jazz picked Nelson in the NBA Expansion Draft. This draft allows new teams to select players from other teams. He played two seasons with the Jazz. Later, he joined the San Antonio Spurs for a short time in the 1976–77 season.
