Louis Edward Carter was an American professional football player. He was a talented running back in the National Football League (NFL). Louis played for the Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was born in Laurel, Maryland, on February 6, 1953, and passed away on October 11, 2020.
Who Was Louis Carter?
Louis Carter was born in Laurel, Maryland. He loved football from a young age. He played college football at the University of Maryland. In his final year, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Coaches' All-American college all-star game. This showed he was a top player!
Playing in the NFL
After college, Louis was chosen by the Oakland Raiders in the 1975 NFL Draft. He was a third-round pick, which means teams thought he was a very good player. He played one season with the Raiders.
In 1976, Louis joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He became a very important part of their offense for three seasons. As a running back, he carried the ball often. He also sometimes caught passes as a receiver.
One special moment happened when Louis threw the first-ever touchdown pass in the Buccaneers' history! He was trying to run the ball, but he got stopped. So, he quickly tossed the ball to his teammate, Morris Owens, for a one-yard touchdown. This was a surprising and memorable play.

After retiring from professional football, Louis Carter started a new career. He sold cars for a dealership in his hometown of Laurel, Maryland. Later, when the dealership closed, Louis joined the security team at the University of Maryland Global Campus. He worked there as a security coordinator.
