Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Louis Cato was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 3, 1985. His family moved to Albemarle, North Carolina, when he was just a baby. Louis grew up surrounded by music. His mom was a church organist, and Louis started playing the drums when he was only two years old! He later studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

Playing with Top Musicians
Louis met the famous musician Marcus Miller at a jam session, which is like an informal music get-together. After that, they toured the world together for many years. Louis also toured Ireland as a drummer with the musician Paul Brady in 2019.
Leading The Late Show Band
In 2015, Louis Cato joined the band Stay Human when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert first started. He often filled in as the bandleader when the original leader, Jon Batiste, was away. In 2022, Jon Batiste decided to leave the show. Louis Cato was then chosen to be the new leader of the house band, which was renamed The Late Show Band. He officially took over on September 6, 2022. Stephen Colbert, the host of the show, has called Louis Cato a "musical genius" because he can play so many different instruments.
