The Louise Home Hospital and Residence Hall is an old hospital and living space in Gresham, Oregon, United States. It was built in 1925. This building first offered a safe place for women and children who needed help. It also served as a school for women. The hospital and its large 17-acre campus are surrounded by Douglas fir trees. This important site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place in American history.

Today, the building is the main office for the Albertina Kerr Centers for Children. This organization helps young people with their mental health in the Portland area.

History of the Louise Home

The first Louise Home started in the Goose Hollow area of Portland, Oregon. William G. McLaren created it to help mothers who needed support. People think the home was named after its first helper or the people who sold the original house.

Albertina Kerr managed the organization. She passed away in 1911. After her death, her husband, Alexander, gave the home to the Pacific Coast Rescue and Protective Society.

A New Home in Gresham

The Louise Home Hospital and Residence Hall was built in 1925. It was placed on a 17-acre plot of land in Gresham. This new, larger home was needed because more women and children required a safe place to live and get medical care.

The Louise Home was the main building on the campus. It provided housing for young women who needed support. Other buildings on the campus included the Albertina Kerr Nursery and the Wynne Watts School. The Wynne Watts School was a place where women could get an education.

The Louise Home also had its own farm. This farm grew food like meat, dairy products, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. This food helped feed everyone living at the home.
