Lourdes Secondary School opened its doors in 1956. It is a school located in the southwest part of Glasgow, Scotland. The school serves a large area, including communities like Cardonald, Craigton, Crookston, Drumoyne, Govan, Hillington, Ibrox, Kinning Park, Mosspark, Penilee, and Pollok. Around 1,200 students attend Lourdes Secondary, and there are about 90 staff members working there.
School Building and Grounds
The school building was designed around a central open space called a quadrangle. This area used to have many shrubs and a large flowerbed. The flowerbed was shaped like the school's crest. Students helped design and plant it for the new millennium celebrations.
The school has one main building. It was first built in the 1950s and designed by Thomas Smith Cordiner. An extension was added in the 1970s. Inside, you'll find over fifty classrooms. There are special areas for science, technical subjects, music, and drama.
Outside, the school has two astroturf pitches. These are great for sports like football. There are also three gymnasiums and a large games hall. A big internal garden area is part of the school grounds too. In 2002, the school got a big makeover. This was part of a city-wide project to update school buildings.
