Lourdes Secondary School is a Catholic school located in the southwest part of Glasgow, Scotland. It first opened its doors in 1956. The school serves a large area, welcoming students from many communities nearby. These include places like Cardonald, Craigton, Crookston, Drumoyne, Govan, Hillington, Ibrox, Kinning Park, Mosspark, Penilee, and Pollok. As of 2023, about 1,462 students attend Lourdes Secondary, supported by around 90 staff members.
Exploring Lourdes Secondary School's Campus
The school building was designed around a special open space called a quadrangle. This area used to have a large flowerbed shaped like the school's badge. Students helped design and plant this flowerbed to celebrate the year 2000.
School Building and Facilities
The main school building was originally built in the 1950s. An extra part was added in the 1970s. Inside, there are more than fifty classrooms for teaching different subjects. There are also special areas for science experiments, technical classes, and music and drama activities.
Outside, the school has two modern astroturf pitches for sports. There are also three gymnasiums and a large hall for games. A big internal garden area is part of the school grounds too. The school got a major update in 2002. This was part of a city-wide plan to improve school buildings.
