Loveleen Tandan is an Indian film professional. She works as a casting director and a film director. She is best known for being the co-director (India) of the famous movie Slumdog Millionaire. She worked on this film with director Danny Boyle.
Loveleen has also been the casting director for many other films. These include Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Brick Lane (2007). She also helped as a casting consultant for The Namesake (2007).

Early Life
Loveleen Tandan grew up in New Delhi, India. She went to Mater Dei School. Later, she studied Sociology at Hindu College, University of Delhi. She was involved in student activities there. She was even chosen as the Finance Minister for her college.
After college, she earned a Master's degree. She studied Mass Communication at Jamia Millia Islamia University. She did very well in her studies.

Loveleen worked with director Deepa Mehta on the film Earth (1998). She then worked with director Mira Nair on three films:

Working on Slumdog Millionaire
Loveleen's most important work is Slumdog Millionaire (2008). She first started as one of the casting directors for the film. A casting director helps choose the actors for a movie.
During the making of the film, director Danny Boyle gave her a special title. She became the "Co-Director: India." He did this because she helped a lot with the movie. Danny Boyle said he relied on her to avoid mistakes. She also helped translate the script for the child actors. She made sure the Hindi lines made sense for them.
Loveleen herself explained how she got the co-director credit. She suggested that parts of the film should be in Hindi. This would make the movie feel more real. About 20% of the film is in Hindi. She was asked to write these Hindi dialogues. As filming got closer, Danny Boyle asked her to become the co-director.
The movie Slumdog Millionaire won many big awards. It won eight Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. It also won five Critics' Choice Awards, four Golden Globes, and seven BAFTA Awards.
Loveleen's work as co-director was recognized by the New York Film Critics Online Awards in 2008. They gave the "Best Director" award to "Danny Boyle with Loveleen Tandan."
