Loveleen also worked as a casting director for the film Brick Lane (2007). This movie was directed by Sarah Gavron and was based on a book by Monica Ali.

Working on Slumdog Millionaire

Loveleen Tandan's most famous work is the movie Slumdog Millionaire (2008). She first joined the team as one of the casting directors. However, during the making of the film, director Danny Boyle gave her the special title of "Co-Director: India." He did this because she made very important contributions to the movie.

Danny Boyle explained that he relied on Loveleen a lot. She helped make sure he didn't make mistakes, especially with translating for the child actors. She also helped translate the script into Hindi in a way that made sense for the young actors. Loveleen herself said that she suggested to Danny and the writer, Simon Beaufoy, that it would be good to have some parts of the film in Hindi to make it feel more real. About 20% of the movie is in Hindi because of her idea. She was then asked to write the Hindi dialogues and later became the co-director.

Slumdog Millionaire was a huge success. It won many major awards, including eight Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, and seven BAFTA Awards. Loveleen's work as co-director was recognized by the New York Film Critics Online Awards in 2008. They awarded "Best Director" to "Danny Boyle with Loveleen Tandan."
