It is about 20 acres (81,000 square meters) in size. In 1990, about 80 tribal members lived there. By 1992, the tribe had 110 enrolled members.

The main office for the tribe is in Lovelock, Nevada. Sandra Winap is the current leader, called the tribal chairperson. She works with a five-person tribal council. The tribe also has its own police force. It includes one police chief and two officers.

Tribal History and Culture

Long ago, different groups of Northern Paiutes were named after their main foods. The people living near what is now Lovelock were called Koop Ticutta. This means "ground squirrel eaters." They also ate other animals like jackrabbits, groundhogs, ducks, geese, and fish. They gathered many wild plants too. These included choke berries, pine nuts, wild onions, sweet potatoes, tule shoots, and cane.

Mary Dave was born in 1881. She remembered meeting George Lovelock, who founded the town. He was friendly and gave her bread and jam. Mary also went to a school run by Sarah Winnemucca. This school was open between 1885 and 1888.

After the reservation was created, another Indian school opened. Photos were taken of this school in 1911 and 1920. In the 1920s, a researcher named Mark Raymond Harrington took pictures of tribal people in the area.
