Lu Guanqiu (born January 17, 1945 – died October 25, 2017) was a very successful Chinese businessman. He started a huge company called the Wanxiang Group. He was one of the richest people in China and even in the world. He was known as the wealthiest person in his home province, Zhejiang. Lu Guanqiu also served as a representative in China's main law-making body, the National People's Congress.
Lu Guanqiu's Early Life
Lu Guanqiu was born in January 1945 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. His family were farmers. When he was 15 years old, he stopped going to school. He then started working as an ironsmith, making things from metal.
Building a Business
In July 1969, Lu Guanqiu and six other farmers started a small factory together. They made small machines for farming. Over time, Lu Guanqiu helped this factory grow into the big company it is today, the Wanxiang Group.
The Wanxiang Group became a very large company. It makes many different things, especially parts and equipment for cars. Lu Guanqiu was the head of the Wanxiang Group. Their main office is in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
Lu Guanqiu also shared his knowledge with others. He was a part-time professor at Zhejiang University. He taught students in a special business program. He also received an honorary doctorate degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
In 2013, Lu Guanqiu was listed as one of the richest people in China. He had about 13.13 billion Chinese Yuan. This was about US$1.87 billion. He was known as the richest person living in Zhejiang Province.
Family Life
Lu Guanqiu was married and had four children. He lived in Hangzhou, China. He passed away on October 25, 2017, when he was 72 years old.
