Lucasville is a small community in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. In 2020, about 1,655 people lived there. Lucasville is part of the larger Portsmouth area.
This town is home to the Scioto County Fairgrounds, where fun events like the annual county fair take place. Just outside Lucasville, you'll find the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, which is a high-security prison. The community also has access to the Portsmouth Public Library and is served by the Valley Local School District and Northwest Local School District.

History of Lucasville
Lucasville was founded in 1819 by a man named Captain John Lucas. The town was named after him. A post office opened in Lucasville in 1828, helping the community grow.
John Lucas was the brother of Robert Lucas, who was a hero in the War of 1812. Robert later became the governor of Ohio for two terms and was also the first governor of Iowa Territory. After his father passed away in 1814, John inherited a lot of land in Scioto County. He decided to establish the town of Lucasville on some of this land on August 7, 1819. John and his wife, Mary, ran a tavern in Lucasville until John's death in 1825. He is buried in the Lucasville Cemetery.
