What Happens in the Story?

Lucky and Squash are neighbors, but a fence keeps them from playing together. Lucky's owner, Mr. Bernard, and Squash's owner, Miss Violet, are both shy. They have never even spoken to each other!
Lucky and Squash come up with a clever plan. They decide to run away! They hope that when their owners come to find them, Mr. Bernard and Miss Violet will finally meet. The dogs wish their owners will fall in love and get married. If that happens, Lucky and Squash would become "brothers" and could play together whenever they wanted!
So, Lucky and Squash escape from their yards for three days in a row. Each day, they go on exciting adventures. And guess what? Their plan works! The owners do meet and they do fall in love.
