Her Career in TV News

Lucy Owen started her journey in broadcasting at BBC Radio Wales. She began as a researcher, helping to find information for shows. Later, she became a reporter and even co-presented a program.

In 1995, Lucy joined HTV Wales. She started reading the news for short local updates during the GMTV morning show. From 1996 to 2007, she was a main presenter for Wales Tonight. This was the main news program for ITV Wales, broadcast from Cardiff.

Lucy also presented on the ITV News Channel, which is no longer on air. She even anchored some of the main ITV News programs, like the Lunchtime News and Evening News. Her last show for Wales Tonight was on October 19, 2007.

After leaving ITV, Lucy moved to BBC Wales. From November 5, 2007, she started presenting BBC Wales Today. This is the BBC Wales evening news program. She took over from another long-time presenter, Sara Edwards. Lucy was surprised to learn that her own father, Jeff Cohen, had also worked as a newsreader for Wales Today in 1962.

Moving to BBC Wales also meant Lucy joined her husband on the team for X-Ray. This show has won a BAFTA award. Since 2016, she has co-hosted X-Ray with Rachel Treadway-Williams and comedian Omar Hamdi.

In May 2012, Lucy took part in a TV series called cariad@iaith:love4language. In this show, eight people spent a week learning the Welsh language at a campsite in Pembrokeshire. It was shown on S4C.
