Ramis's Playing Career
Early Days and Real Madrid
Luis Miguel Ramis was born in Tarragona, a city in Catalonia, Spain. He started his football journey with his hometown club, Gimnàstic. When he was in his 20s, he joined Real Madrid's reserve team, called Real Madrid Castilla.
In the 1992–93 season, he played seven games for Real Madrid's main team in La Liga. The next season, he became a full-time player for the main squad.
Winning with Real Madrid
In 1994, Ramis helped Real Madrid win the Copa Iberoamericana. This was a special cup played against Boca Juniors from Argentina. Real Madrid won the cup with a 4–3 score over two games.
Soon after, he moved to Tenerife. He played well for two seasons in the top league. Then, he joined Sevilla. In the 1996–97 season, he played his most games ever in a single season, 39 matches. However, his team, Sevilla, was moved down to a lower league that year.
Later Career and Injuries
In 1997, Ramis joined Deportivo La Coruña, a strong team. He was a backup player at first. After a good first year, he suffered a serious knee and leg injury. This injury affected his career a lot.
In his last years as a professional player, after leaving Deportivo, he played only 45 games. His teams often faced challenges, with Racing Santander being relegated from the top division, and both Gimnàstic and Racing Ferrol moving down from the Segunda División.
Ramis's Coaching Career
Starting as a Coach
Ramis stopped playing football in 2006. He then started his coaching career at Real Madrid's youth teams. He worked there for many years, helping young players develop their skills.
Managing Real Madrid Castilla
On January 5, 2016, Ramis became the head coach of Real Madrid Castilla. This happened after Zinedine Zidane, the previous coach, moved up to manage Real Madrid's main team. Ramis tried to help his team get promoted to a higher league in the playoffs, but they didn't succeed. After that, he left the team by agreement.
Coaching Other Spanish Clubs
Ramis then became the manager of Almería on March 14, 2017. This team was in the second division. However, after eight games without a win, he was removed from his job on November 12, 2017.
On June 24, 2018, Ramis signed to manage Albacete, another team in the second division. In his first season, he led them to a great fourth-place finish. They made it to the playoff semi-finals but lost to Mallorca.
On February 3, 2020, Ramis was dismissed from Albacete. The team was struggling and had been eliminated from the Copa del Rey cup. On November 24, he returned to coach Tenerife, also in the second division.
Recent Coaching Roles
Ramis led Tenerife to the playoffs in 2022. They beat their rivals Las Palmas but lost in the final to Girona. On April 22, 2023, he announced he would leave Tenerife at the end of that season.
On November 6, 2023, Ramis was appointed manager of Espanyol, a team in the second division. He was dismissed on March 12, 2024. Seven months later, he took over Burgos, where he is currently the manager.
