Luisa-María Linares was a very popular Spanish writer. She was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1915 and passed away in Estoril, Portugal, in 1986. She wrote 32 romantic novels between 1939 and 1983. Her books were so well-loved that they were translated into many languages. Also, 22 of her novels were made into movies! Luisa-María came from a family of writers. Her sister, Concha Linares-Becerra, also wrote romance novels. Her father, Luis Linares-Becerra, was a playwright, which means he wrote plays for the theater.

Luisa María Linares-Becerra y Martín de Eugenio was born in 1915 in Madrid, Spain. Her father, Luis Linares-Becerra, was a playwright and journalist. Her mother was María Concepción Martín de Eugenio. Luisa-María had two sisters named María Concepción and María del Carmen. After their father passed away, her sister María Concepción started writing romance novels under the name Concha Linares-Becerra.

Early Adulthood and Family

When Luisa-María was 15, she met Antonio Carbó y Ortiz-Repiso. They fell in love and got married in September 1933, when she was 18 years old. They had two daughters together, María Luisa and María Concepción. Sadly, her husband passed away in August 1936 during the Spanish Civil War.

Starting Her Writing Career

After her husband's death, Luisa-María moved back home with her mother. She began writing for different magazines. In 1939, when the Spanish Civil War ended, she published her very first novels. Just one year later, in 1940, her novel En poder de Barba Azul was turned into a movie. This was the first of 22 movies based on her books!

Luisa-María Linares passed away on September 12, 1986, in Estoril, Portugal. She was buried in her hometown of Madrid.
