Her Career in Politics
Luiza Erundina has been involved in politics for many years. She has been a member of different political parties throughout her career.
Early Political Life
From 1980 to 1997, she was part of the PT. Later, in 1997, she joined the PSB. In March 2016, she moved to the PSOL. This change happened because she disagreed with some decisions made by the PSB party.
Roles in Government
Luiza Erundina has held several important positions:
- She served on the São Paulo city council from 1983 to 1987. A city council helps make rules for a city.
- From 1987 to 1988, she was a state deputy for the state of São Paulo. A state deputy helps make laws for a state.
- She was the Mayor of São Paulo from 1989 to 1992. The mayor is the leader of a city.
