Luka Ivanović (born May 18, 1992), who is known by his stage name Luke Black, is a Serbian singer and songwriter. He was the first artist from Serbia to sign a contract with Universal Music Group. Through this label, he released his first EP (a short album) called Thorns in 2015.
In 2023, Luke Black represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest with his song "Samo mi se spava". He finished in 24th place in the grand final. People often call him the "Serbian pop alchemist" because his music is a unique mix of electropop and experimental pop sounds.

Early Life and Name
Luka Ivanović was born in Čačak, a city in what was then FR Yugoslavia. He became interested in music when he was 12 years old and started writing his own song lyrics. A few years later, he began creating and producing his own music. After finishing high school, he moved to Belgrade to study English language and literature at the University of Belgrade.
His stage name, Luke Black, has a special meaning. "Luke" is the English version of his first name, Luka. He chose "Black" because as a teenager, he felt like he was in mourning for what he saw as the "death of the Serbian music scene."
Music Career
How It All Started
Luke's career took off after representatives from Universal Music Group saw a performance of his song "D-Generation" and offered him a record deal. In 2014, he released his first single, "Nebula Lullaby." His first live show was at the Belgrade Youth Center that same year.
In 2015, he officially released "D-Generation" and another single called "Holding on to Love." These songs were part of his first EP, Thorns, which came out in September 2015. He then performed in other cities like Vienna and Zagreb to promote his new music.
Early Singles and EPs
In 2016, Luke released a single called "Demons." The song was considered to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, but another song was chosen. That year, he went on a solo tour in China, performing in cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
The next year, he released the single "Walpurgis Night." Both "Demons" and "Walpurgis Night" were included on his second EP, Neoslavic, which was released in July 2018. After this, Luke took a break from making music for a while.
Eurovision and New Music
In April 2021, Luke returned to music with the song "A House on the Hill," which was part of his EP F23.8.
In January 2023, he was announced as a contestant in Pesma za Evroviziju '23, Serbia's national competition to choose its Eurovision entry. He competed with the song "Samo mi se spava" (which means "I just want to sleep"). On March 4, he won the competition, earning the chance to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, England.
At Eurovision, Luke performed in the first semi-final and made it to the grand final. He dedicated his performance to the victims of the Belgrade school shooting. In the final, he finished in 24th place.
After Eurovision, Luke's career grew. He performed at sold-out shows in London and released a new single called "I'm So Happy." In October 2023, he was the opening act for the Ukrainian band Go_A in London. He later released another single, "God's Too Cool," and had a sold-out concert in Belgrade.
2024: Chainsaws in Paradise
In February 2024, Luke announced that his first full album, Chainsaws in Paradise, would be released on May 24. He also announced a tour in the United Kingdom, Poland, and Finland. He released several singles from the album, including the title track "Chainsaws in Paradise," "Winter Dahlia," and "Drinking Jack With Daddy."
Personal Life
Luke Black lives in London, England. He studied music production and earned a master's degree from the British and Irish Modern Music Institute. He has also worked as a graphic designer for a record label in London.
