Early life
Luke Black was born in Čačak, Serbia. He started making his own music when he was very young, over 12 years ago. He even recorded seven full albums by himself, but only his close friends heard them.
Later, he moved to Belgrade because he wanted a more exciting life. There, he began studying English language and literature.
Career
How Luke Black Started in Music
Luke Black's music journey began when a song he performed, "D-Generation," caught the attention of Universal Music Group. They offered him a record deal. He worked with a Serbian music group called Zemlja Gruva to make his first recordings.
In 2014, he released his first single, "Nebula Lullaby." He also performed live for the first time at the Belgrade Youth Center. His song "D-Generation" was officially released in February 2015. This song was the main track from his first collection of songs, called an EP. The EP, named Thorns, came out on September 18, 2015.
In May 2016, Luke Black released another song called "Demons." This song was considered to represent Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. However, another artist was chosen instead. To promote "Demons," Luke Black went on a solo tour in China, performing in cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
In April 2017, he performed at a fashion show in Berlin. There, he announced his song "Walpurgis Night." Later, in July 2018, remastered versions of "Demons" and "Walpurgis Night" were part of his second EP, Neoslavic. After this, Luke Black took a break from music for a while.
Eurovision Journey and New Music
In April 2021, Luke Black released "A House on the Hill." This song was part of his EP called F23.8.
In January 2023, he was chosen to compete in Pesma za Evroviziju '23. This is the show where Serbia picks its song for Eurovision. He sang "Samo mi se spava" and won the competition on March 4. This meant he would represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.
At Eurovision, he performed in the first semi-final on May 9 and made it to the grand final. In the grand final on May 13, he finished in 24th place.
After Eurovision, Luke Black performed two sold-out shows in London. He also released a new song called "I'm So Happy" in August 2023. In October, he opened for the Ukrainian band Go_A at a concert.
On November 16, Luke Black released another song, "God's Too Cool." A month later, he returned to Serbia for a sold-out concert in Belgrade. This was at the same venue where he first performed 10 years earlier. Some of his artist friends, including Konstrakta (who represented Serbia in Eurovision 2022), joined him on stage.
2024: Chainsaws in Paradise
On February 29, 2024, Luke Black opened the semi-final of Pesma za Evroviziju '24. He sang his winning song "Samo mi se spava" again. In an interview, he announced his first full album, Chainsaws in Paradise, would be released on May 24. He also planned a tour in the United Kingdom, Poland, and Finland.
During the show, he performed an extended version of "God's Too Cool." He also showed a new song called "Chainsaws in Paradise," which is the title track of his album. This song was released the next day. He released two more songs from the album, "Winter Dahlia" and "Drinking Jack With Daddy," in the following months.
