Early life
Luke Bryan was born in Leesburg, Georgia. His parents, LeClaire and Tommy Bryan, were peanut farmers.
When Luke was 19, he planned to move to Nashville, Tennessee to start his music career. Sadly, his older brother, Chris, died in a car accident. Because of this tragedy, Luke decided to stay home with his family.
He went to Georgia Southern University and earned a degree in business administration in 1999. While in college, he was part of the Sigma Chi fraternity and briefly dated Caroline Boyer, who would later become his wife. They met again years later and started dating again before getting married.
Two years after college, Luke's father encouraged him to follow his dream. He told Luke to pack his truck and move to Nashville. There, he first found success writing songs for other artists before becoming a famous singer himself.
Music career
2006–2010: First albums
After moving to Nashville, Bryan began writing songs for other musicians. He co-wrote Billy Currington's number-one hit "Good Directions". Soon after, he signed a record deal with Capitol Nashville.
His first single was "All My Friends Say", which he co-wrote. It became a top 5 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart. In 2007, he released his first album, I'll Stay Me. Bryan wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on the album.
In 2009, he released his second album, Doin' My Thing. The song "Do I" from this album was a big hit, reaching number 2 on the charts. The album also included the number-one hits "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby".
In 2010, Bryan appeared on the TV show Celebrity Apprentice. He helped raise $25,000 for charity.
2011–2015: Rise to stardom
In 2011, Bryan released his third album, Tailgates & Tanlines. The album was a huge success, reaching number one on the country charts. It included the hit song "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)". Three other singles from the album, "I Don't Want This Night to End", "... on You", and "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye", all went to number one.
In 2013, Bryan released his fourth studio album, Crash My Party. This album was even more successful. It became his first album to reach number one on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. The album had six number-one singles, including the title track "Crash My Party", "That's My Kind of Night", and "Play It Again".
Bryan became the only country artist to have an album with six number-one singles on two different Billboard charts.
2015–2018: Continued success
Bryan's fifth album, Kill the Lights, came out in 2015. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's first single, "Kick the Dust Up", also went to number one.
All six singles from Kill the Lights reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. This made Bryan the first artist in the chart's history to have six number-one hits from a single album.
In 2017, Bryan sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl LI. That same year, he became a judge on the singing competition show American Idol on ABC. He also released his sixth album, What Makes You Country.
