Early Life and Start in Music
Luke Bryan was born in Leesburg, Georgia. His parents, LeClaire and Tommy Bryan, owned a peanut farm.
Luke went to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He studied business and graduated in 1999. While there, he briefly dated his future wife, Caroline. They reconnected years later when Luke was performing in Statesboro. They later started dating again and got married.
Two years after college, Luke's father encouraged him to move to Nashville to start a music career. He first found success writing songs for other artists. Soon after, he signed a record deal as a performer. His first big hit was "All My Friends Say".
Music Career Highlights
Starting Out: 2006–2011
After moving to Nashville, Luke Bryan joined a music publishing company. One of his first songs was the title track for Travis Tritt's 2004 album, My Honky Tonk History.
Later, he signed a recording contract with Capitol Nashville. He also co-wrote Billy Currington's song "Good Directions", which became a number one hit in 2007. Luke co-wrote his first single, "All My Friends Say", which reached number 5 on the country charts.
In August 2007, Capitol Nashville released Luke's first album, I'll Stay Me. He wrote or co-wrote almost all the songs on it. The album's next singles, "We Rode in Trucks" and "Country Man", also became hits.
In March 2009, Luke released an EP (a shorter album) called Spring Break with All My Friends. It had two new songs and an acoustic version of "All My Friends Say". After this, he released his fourth single, "Do I", which he wrote with Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood from Lady A. This song reached number 2 on the country charts.
"Do I" was part of Luke's second album, Doin' My Thing, released in October 2009. The album also included a cover of OneRepublic's song "Apologize". Luke wrote the next two singles from the album, "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby". Both of these songs became number one hits.
In February 2011, Luke released his third Spring Break EP, Spring Break 3...It's a Shore Thing. This was followed by his seventh single, "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)". This song was the first single from his third album, Tailgates & Tanlines, released in August 2011. The album reached number one on the country album chart and number two on the overall Billboard 200 chart. "Country Girl" became a top 5 country hit.
Luke also sang on Jason Aldean's song "The Only Way I Know" in 2012, along with Eric Church. In March 2012, he released his fourth Spring Break EP, Spring Break 4...Suntan City. In January 2013, Luke announced his first collection album, Spring Break...Here to Party, which included songs from his previous Spring Break EPs and two new songs. It was released in March and became his first album to reach number one on the overall Billboard 200 chart.
Big Hits and New Albums: 2013–2018
Luke Bryan's fourth studio album, Crash My Party, came out in August 2013. The first song from the album, "Crash My Party", became a number one hit in July 2013. The second single, "That's My Kind of Night", also reached number one on the Hot Country Songs chart.
The album's third single, "Drink a Beer", became a number one hit in early 2014. "Play It Again" was the fourth single and also hit number one. Luke also sang on Florida Georgia Line's 2014 hit "This Is How We Roll". "Roller Coaster" and "I See You" were the fifth and sixth singles from the album, both reaching number one.
Luke Bryan is the only country artist to have six number one singles from one album on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.
In March 2015, Luke released his last Spring Break album, Spring Break...Checkin' Out. In May 2015, he released "Kick the Dust Up", the first single from his fifth album, Kill the Lights. This song also reached number one. Luke co-wrote more than half the songs on this album.
Kill the Lights was released in August 2015 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second single, "Strip It Down", and third single, "Home Alone Tonight", both became number one hits. The fourth single, "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day", also reached number one. All six singles from Kill the Lights reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, making Luke the first artist to achieve this.
