Luling's Economy
Luling is home to a large chemical factory. This factory is run by a company called Bayer. In the past, it was owned by another company called Monsanto.
The plant is well-known for making Roundup. This is a popular product used to kill weeds. The factory has been part of discussions about environmental safety in Louisiana.
The George Prince Ferry Accident
Before the Destrehan-Luling Bridge was built in 1983, people used ferries to cross the Mississippi River. These ferries connected Luling with the town of Destrehan.
On October 20, 1976, a ferry named the George Prince was hit by a large ship. The ferry then sank in the river. Sadly, 78 passengers and crew members died in this accident.
