Lunawanna is a small town on the western side of Bruny Island in Tasmania. It faces the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The town gets its name from a part of the original Tasmanian Aboriginal name for Bruny Island, which was Lunawanna-alonnah. A town nearby, called Alonnah, is about 5 km north and shares the other part of the name.

Lunawanna is part of different government areas. For national elections, it is in the federal electorate of Franklin. For state elections in Tasmania, it is in the House of Assembly division of Franklin and the Legislative Council division of Huon. Since 1994, Bruny Island's local council joined with the Kingborough Council. So, Lunawanna is now in the Kingborough Council area.

A woman named Mrs Lue Lunawanna, who is the granddaughter of Eddie Lunawanna, wanted a part of South Bruny to be named after Mr Lunawanna. This was to remember the Aboriginal people of Bruny Island and their old traditions. At that time, European settlers arriving on Bruny Island had caused many of these traditions to fade away.

Lunawanna has a public toilet at its community hall. It also has a jetty and a post box. You can find Bruny Island Premium Wines in Lunawanna. The closest food store, post office, and police station are in Alonnah, about 7 km north. The only place to get petrol on Bruny Island is at the Adventure Bay store, which is about 19 km away along the main road.

On the last Saturday evening of every month, a fun talent night is held at the Lunawanna Memorial hall. This event is called the Lunawanna Jamboree. Before 2015, it was known as Hoppy's Jamboree, named after the person who started it.

A Look Back: Lunawanna's History

The post office in this area first opened on 1 April 1899. It was called Daniel's Bay Post Office. In 1907, its name was changed to Lunawanna. The post office closed in 1971.

In the past, there was a sawmill at Daniel's Bay. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into timber. This sawmill later moved to a place called "Ventnor" on Little Taylor's Bay. Another sawmill was located near Cloudy Bay Road, on the eastern side of Lunawanna.

Between 1860 and 1872, sandstone was dug up at Ventenat Point. This stone was then sent by ship to Hobart and Melbourne.
