Lundy (once called Mill Creek) is a historic place in Mono County, California, United States. It's located high in the mountains, about 7,858 feet (2,395 meters) above sea level. You can find it near Mill Creek and the west end of Lundy Lake.
The area was named after O.J. Lundy. He ran a sawmill near Lundy Lake a long time ago. This sawmill was very important. It provided lots of wood for the nearby mining town of Bodie, California. Lundy also had a mining camp that started in 1879. The Lundy post office was open from 1880 until 1914.
Like many towns that grew during the gold rush, Lundy is now mostly gone. A dam was built, which made Lundy Lake bigger. Because of this, part of the old town site is now underwater.
Today, Lundy is a popular spot for fishing and enjoying nature. It's a bit rustic, meaning it doesn't have all the modern comforts. Electricity comes from a small generator. Besides the main lake, there are three other lakes you can reach by hiking. There are also several beaver ponds to explore.
When you drive into Lundy Canyon, you might see the last grave of what was once a big cemetery. One part of Lundy Lake is even called Stagecoach Corner. This is because a stagecoach once missed a sharp turn there. It ended up falling into the lake! Many years ago, scuba divers found the stagecoach. It was still lying on its side, kept safe by the lake's icy cold water.
