History of Luray
Luray started to be planned and built in 1836. This means people decided where streets and buildings would go. Many of the first families who settled here came from a place called Luray, Virginia. Because of this, they decided to name their new community "Luray" after their old home.
A post office opened in Luray in 1838. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1901.
