The Life of Luther Orlando Emerson
Luther Orlando Emerson was born on August 3, 1820, in a town called Parsonsfield, Maine. His parents were Luther Emerson and Elizabeth Usher.
When he was younger, Luther went to school at Parsonsfield Seminary and Effingham Academy. He first planned to become a doctor! But later, he decided to study music instead. He learned a lot from a music teacher named Isaac Woodbury.
After his studies, Luther Emerson taught music for eight years in Salem, Massachusetts. He also worked as an organist and led music in different churches across Massachusetts. He was very busy, directing about 300 musical events and gatherings! These events were often called musical festivals or conventions.
Luther Orlando Emerson passed away on September 29, 1915. He was buried in the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Luther Emerson was very good at putting together collections of church music. These collections were like songbooks filled with hymns and other religious songs. He published many of them!
