Luton George Kieshawn Shelton (born November 11, 1985 – died January 22, 2021) was a talented Jamaican football player. He played as a striker or winger. At the time of his passing, he was the top scorer for the Jamaican national team with 35 goals.
Luton Shelton holds a special record. He is the only male football player to score four goals in his very first international game in 2004. He played 75 games for Jamaica and took part in three CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments. Shelton started his career at Harbour View in Jamaica. He also played for professional clubs in Sweden, England, Norway, Denmark, Turkey, and Russia. During his career, he helped his teams win the 2006 Svenska Cupen in Sweden and the 2008 Norwegian Cup in Norway.

Club Career
Harbour View
Luton Shelton began his football journey in the youth teams of Harbour View. By the age of 18, he became a regular player for their main team. While playing for Harbour View, he helped them win the CFU Club Championship and the National Premier League. He was also recognized as the youth player of the year.
Helsingborg
In August 2006, Shelton joined Helsingborg in Sweden. He scored nine goals in 19 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan league. This was impressive, even though he faced some injuries. Overall, he scored 17 goals in 28 matches for the club. This included five goals in four Swedish Cup games. He helped Helsingborg win the Swedish Cup. A highlight was his goal in the final against Gefle, which Helsingborg won 1–0.
Sheffield United
Shelton moved to Sheffield United in England. He made his first full appearance in April 2007 against Manchester United. He played only a few more games that season as his team tried to avoid being moved down to a lower league.
Later, he scored his first goals for the club in September 2007. He netted two goals in a League Cup win against Morecambe. He scored two more goals that season, one in the FA Cup and one in the league.
Vålerenga
On July 24, 2008, Shelton moved to Norwegian team Vålerenga. He made his debut on August 2, scoring a goal in a 1–1 game. Shelton was known for his incredible speed on the field. He was considered the fastest player to run a 40-meter sprint in the Norwegian league. He played in the 2008 Norwegian Cup and was one of Vålerenga's top scorers in 2010 with 12 goals.
During the 2009-2010 season, Shelton played for Aalborg BK in Denmark on a loan. He played 11 games for them.
Karabükspor and Volga Nizhny Novgorod
On August 4, 2011, Shelton joined Karabükspor in Turkey. He played there for two years. In 2013, Shelton moved to FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod in Russia. The club faced some financial challenges during his time there.
Harbour View Return
After being out of the game for two years due to injury, Shelton returned to Harbour View in early 2017. He scored a goal in his very first match back. This game turned out to be his last before he retired from football.
International Career
Shelton played for various Jamaican national teams, including the U-17, U-20, U-23, and the senior national team. He made history by being the only male player to score four goals in his first international game. In June 2008, he scored five goals in two FIFA World Cup qualifying games against the Bahamas.
He also scored two goals as Jamaica won 7–0 and a hat-trick as Jamaica won 6–0 in other matches. Shelton was the top goal scorer in the 2010 CONCACAF World Cup qualification matches with seven goals. On January 31, 2010, he scored against Canada, becoming Jamaica's all-time leading goal scorer with 28 goals. By November 27, 2010, he increased his record to 30 goals after scoring twice against Antigua.
In a memorable game, Jamaica beat the United States 2–1 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Goals from Rodolph Austin and Luton Shelton helped Jamaica achieve their first victory over the US in 19 matches.
Personal Life
Luton Shelton had three children with his wife, Bobbette.
In 2018, it was announced that Shelton had ALS, a serious illness that affects the nerves and muscles. He sadly passed away from complications of this illness on January 22, 2021, at the age of 35.
