Lyons got its first post office way back in 1837. Before it was called Lyons, it was known as "Morey's Corners." This name came from Jinks Morey, who helped start the village in 1850. That's when a special road called a plank road was finished, making it easier to travel there.
Jinks Morey also helped create the First Universalist Church of Lyons, Ohio. This church building, finished in 1868, is the oldest building in Royalton Township, Fulton County, Ohio that isn't a home. Lyons officially became a village in 1900.
