Mädchen Amick (pronounced MAY-chen AY-mik; born December 12, 1970) is an American actress and television director. She is famous for playing Shelly Johnson in the TV series Twin Peaks and Alice Cooper in the TV series Riverdale.
Amick has appeared in many other shows and movies. Some of her well-known roles were in the horror movie Sleepwalkers (1992) and the TV show Witches of East End (2013–2014).

Early Life and First Steps in Acting
Mädchen Elaina Amick was born in Sparks, Nevada. Her parents, Judy and Bill Amick, wanted her to have a unique name, so they chose Mädchen, which is the German word for "girl." Her family background includes German, Norwegian, Swedish, English, and Irish roots.
Her parents always encouraged her to be creative. As a child, she learned to play several instruments, including the piano, bass, violin, and guitar. She also took many types of dance lessons. When she was 16, she moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to become an actress.
Career Highlights
Breakthrough with Twin Peaks
After moving to Los Angeles, Amick had small roles in shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Baywatch. Her big break came when director David Lynch cast her as Shelly Johnson, a waitress, in the TV series Twin Peaks (1990–1991).
Her character became very popular with viewers. Amick played Shelly again in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) and in the 2017 revival of the series.
Movie and TV Roles in the 1990s
In the early 1990s, Amick starred in several movies. She played the main character, Tanya Robertson, in the Stephen King horror film Sleepwalkers (1992). The next year, she starred in the thriller Dream Lover (1993) with actor James Spader.
She also appeared in the TV soap opera Central Park West from 1995 to 1996 and had a role in the 1998 version of Fantasy Island.
Success in Television
Throughout the 2000s, Amick became a familiar face on television. She had recurring roles in popular shows like Gilmore Girls, ER, and Gossip Girl. She was also a main character in the comedy series Freddie from 2005 to 2006.
From 2013 to 2014, she starred as the witch Wendy Beauchamp in the fantasy drama Witches of East End. Her character was so well-liked that she became a main part of the show.
Riverdale and Directing
Since 2017, Amick has played Alice Cooper, the mother of Betty Cooper, in the popular CW series Riverdale. This role has introduced her to a new generation of fans.
Besides acting, Amick has also started directing. She has directed several episodes of Riverdale, showing her talent behind the camera as well.
Personal Life
In 1995, Mädchen Amick married David Alexis. They have two children, a son named Sylvester and a daughter named Mina.
Her daughter, Mina Tobias, is a musician. In 2018, she released a music video for her song "Freedom" that was inspired by her mother's famous show, Twin Peaks.
