Mädchen Amick (born December 12, 1970) is an American actress and television director. She is well-known for her roles in popular TV shows. Many people know her as Shelly Johnson from the mystery series Twin Peaks (1990–1991). She also appeared in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) and the show's return in 2017.
Mädchen Amick was also a regular on shows like Central Park West (1995–1996) and Witches of East End (2013–2014). More recently, she played Alice Cooper in The CW's drama series Riverdale from 2017 to 2023. She has also starred in films such as Sleepwalkers (1992) and Dream Lover (1993).

Early Life
Mädchen Elaina Amick was born on December 12, 1970, in Sparks, Nevada. Her mother, Judy, managed a medical office, and her father, Bill, was a musician. Her parents chose the name Mädchen because it means "girl" in German, and they wanted a unique name for her. She also has Norwegian, Swedish, English, and Irish family roots.
As a young girl, Mädchen's parents encouraged her to explore her creative side. She learned to play several musical instruments, including the piano, bass, violin, and guitar. She also took lessons in various dance styles like tap, ballet, jazz, and modern dance. When she was 16, in 1987, she moved to Los Angeles to start her acting career.
Career Highlights
After moving to Los Angeles, Amick began her acting journey with small guest roles. She appeared in episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1989) and Baywatch (1989). Her big break came when director David Lynch chose her for the TV series Twin Peaks.
On Twin Peaks (1990–1991), she played Shelly Johnson, a waitress. Her character faced many difficult challenges in her marriage. Shelly became one of the most popular characters on the show. Amick worked with David Lynch two more times. She played Shelly again in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992). She also returned for seven episodes of the Twin Peaks revival series in 2017.
In the early 1990s, Amick also starred in several films. She was in the horror film Sleepwalkers (1992), based on a story by Stephen King. The next year, she starred in the thriller Dream Lover (1993) alongside James Spader. They worked together again in the TV movie The Courtyard in 1995.

Amick continued to appear in many TV shows and films. She had recurring roles on popular series like Gilmore Girls, ER, and Joey. In 2006, she was a regular on the sitcom Freddie. She also had a role in the thriller Kidnapped.
In 2008, Amick played a recurring role in Gossip Girl. She also appeared in the series Californication and My Own Worst Enemy. In 2010, she was in the drama series Damages and CSI: NY.
From 2013 to 2014, Amick starred in the supernatural drama Witches of East End. She played Wendy Beauchamp, a character who was originally a guest star but became a main character. In 2015, she joined the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel. Since 2017, Mädchen Amick has been a main cast member on Riverdale. She plays Alice Cooper, the mother of Betty Cooper. She has also directed some episodes of Riverdale.
Personal Life
Mädchen Amick married David Alexis on December 16, 1995. They had been together for eight years before getting married. They have two children together: a son named Sylvester Time Amick-Alexis and a daughter named Mina Tobias Amick-Alexis. Mina Tobias is a musician. In 2018, she released a song called "Freedom," and its music video paid tribute to Twin Peaks, the show her mother is famous for.
