Her Career Journey
Mónica Miguel loved the arts, especially theater, from a young age. She used to go to plays that visited her hometown of Tepic. She even joined a local acting group.
To follow her dreams, she moved to Mexico City. There, she studied acting at a special academy. Her friends encouraged her to travel, so she went to Japan and then Italy. In Italy, she worked in films, theater, and TV. She even recorded her first music album there! Living in Rome for eight years helped her grow as a person and as an artist. She also performed in Greece, Cyprus, and England.
Coming Back to Mexico
After returning to Mexico, Mónica Miguel continued her acting career. She won an award from the Union of Theater Critics for her performances in plays like Vine, ví y mejor me fuí and La maestra bebe un poco. In 1981, she starred in "The Merry Wives of Windsor." That same year, the Mexican Association of Theater Critics named her the best actress and singer for her role in the play Man of La Mancha.
In 1986, she received more awards, the María Tereza Montoya and Virginia Fábregas prizes, for her acting in the play Aire frío.
Directing Popular Shows
Starting in 1988, Mónica Miguel became a director for many popular Mexican soap operas. These shows were watched by people all over the world. Her directing work earned her awards like the Herald prize and the New York Latin ACE Award. She also loved promoting the art and culture of her home country, Mexico. She was a member of ANDA, which is the National Actors Association of Mexico.
Her Passing
Mónica Miguel passed away on August 12, 2020. The Mexican Actors Association shared the sad news. The Nayarit Organization for Developing Art (ONDA Nayarit) also tweeted: "It is with deep sadness that we notify the death of the actress, interpreter and stage director Mónica Miguel. Rest in peace. Our deepest condolences and solidarity for her family."
