Mỹ Linh, born Đỗ Mỹ Linh on August 19, 1975, is a famous singer from Vietnam. She also writes songs and teaches people how to sing. Mỹ Linh is one of the most successful Vietnamese music artists ever. She has sold over 2 million records!
People often call her the "Queen of Vietnamese R&B." She is also known as the "Queen of Spring." This is because her songs for the Tet holiday are very popular. Her first song, Thì Thầm Mùa Xuân (1993), and "Khúc Giao Mùa" (2000) are special favorites. Mỹ Linh is known for her strong and skilled singing voice. She is one of the four top female singers, or "divas," in Vietnam. The other divas are Hồng Nhung, Thanh Lam, and Hà Trần.

Early Life and Education
Mỹ Linh grew up in Hanoi, Vietnam. She was born into a family where her father was a teacher and later a builder. Her mother worked in a factory that made medicine. Mỹ Linh has an older brother and a younger sister.
From a very young age, Mỹ Linh showed a lot of talent for music. She won many awards in children's music contests. She went to school in the Hai Bà Trưng District of Hanoi. In 1994, she finished high school. She then got the top score on the entrance exam for the Hanoi Conservatory of Music. She finished her studies there in 1997. By then, she was already a very famous pop singer.
Music Career Highlights
Mỹ Linh started her professional music journey in August 1993. She and her band, Hoa Sữa, won second place at the National Pop Music Festival. Mỹ Linh herself won the "Best New Artist" award. She won it with the song Thì Thầm Mùa Xuân. This song was written by Ngọc Châu. After this festival, Mỹ Linh became one of Vietnam's most loved singers.
In 1998, Mỹ Linh married Anh Quân, who is a composer and music producer. This was a big moment for her music career. She started singing Soul and Funk music. In 1998, she went on a tour called Tiếng Hát Mỹ Linh. She performed in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. After her successful tour, she released the album Tóc Ngắn in 1999. This album became her signature style.
In 2003, Mỹ Linh signed a contract with an American record company called Blue Tiger. This company helped her release an English-language album. This news got a lot of attention in Vietnam. The album, Coming to America, came out in 2004.
Mỹ Linh has also helped find new talent. In 2006, she was a judge for Sao Mai Điểm Hẹn. This was a singing contest on Vietnam Television. It aimed to find young, talented musicians.
Mỹ Linh has performed in many countries around the world. These include China, Thailand, Korea, Russia, Germany, and the United States. In 2006, she was the only Vietnamese artist to perform at the Asian Divas night in Nagoya, Japan.
Personal Life
Mỹ Linh married composer and producer Anh Quân in 1998. They have two children together, Anh Duy and Mỹ Anh. Anh Quân also has a daughter named Anna (Vietnamese name Mỹ Hà) from his first marriage.
Mỹ Linh enjoys listening to music by other famous singers. Some of her favorite artists are Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, and Babyface.
Activism and Causes
Mỹ Linh uses her voice to help important causes. In 2004, she made a special video to raise awareness. This video was about the dangers of people using bear bile. It showed how this practice harms wild bears and bears kept on farms. The short film was shown on several TV stations in Vietnam. It included scenes from bear farms in Hanoi.
The video was made by Education for Nature Vietnam. This is the first non-governmental group in Vietnam focused on protecting nature. They got help from the London-based Environmental Justice Foundation.
