M. B. Goffstein (born December 20, 1940 – died December 20, 2017) was an American writer and artist. She created books for both children and adults. Her books won several awards. These include three New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books of the Year. She also received a Caldecott Honor for her book Fish for Supper.

Who Was M. B. Goffstein?

Marilyn Brooke Goffstein was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. This was on December 20, 1940. Her parents were Albert and Esther Goffstein.

She went to Bennington College and finished in 1962. For her final project, she made a sculpture. Her first book for kids was The Gats!. It came out in 1966. She worked with her editor, Michael di Capua, for 20 years. Their last book together was My Editor in 1986.

In the summer of 1980, she taught writing workshops. These were at Bennington College with Lore Segal. She also taught how to illustrate children's books. She taught at Parsons School of Design. She also taught at the University of Minnesota's Split Rock Arts summer program.
