M. E. Holland, born in 1967, is an American writer, director, producer, and actor. He owns a company called DelFlix Pictures. He made his first film, The Other Brother, in 2001.

Early Life and School

M. E. Holland was born in Manhattan, New York, on January 17, 1967. His mom, Margaret, stayed home to care for the family. His dad, Nick, owned two stores in Harlem. When he was about 12, his family moved to Mount Vernon, New York. Two years later, they moved to Greenburgh, New York. He graduated from Greenburgh High School there.

Holland's Career Journey

In 1986, Holland joined the U. S. Army. He earned seven special awards for his service. He left the Army in October 1988. After that, he went back to New York. He studied at Fordham University.

He earned a degree in U.S. History in 1992. He also studied African-American history. Later, he joined the film program at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Holland won an award for a movie script called A Gentleman's Game.

Before he even finished school, he made his first independent movie. He borrowed money from his parents and a film lab to do it. He also worked as an intern on the set of Clockers. This was a film by famous director Spike Lee. There, he met actor Mekhi Phifer. It was the first movie experience for both of them.

Holland's first movie, The Other Brother, starred Mekhi Phifer. It was shown at the Urbanworld Film Festival. It also played at the Sedona International Film Festival. A company called Xenon Pictures released the film. It was shown in movie theaters across the United States. Film critics like Kevin Thomas and Dave Kehr wrote reviews about it.
