History of Mablethorpe and Sutton
This area has an interesting history regarding how it's governed. In 1894, the local government for Mablethorpe was part of the Louth Rural District. This was a larger area that included many villages.
Becoming an Urban District
Things changed in 1896 when Mablethorpe became an "urban district." This meant it had its own local council to manage town services. In 1925, two nearby parishes, Sutton in the Marsh and Trusthorpe, joined this urban district. Because of this, the name changed to "Mablethorpe and Sutton Urban District."
Changes in Local Government
The way local areas are governed often changes over time. In 1974, the "urban district" status for Mablethorpe and Sutton was removed. This happened because of a big law called the Local Government Act 1972. After this, the main local authority became East Lindsey. However, Mablethorpe and Sutton still remained a "civil parish" with its own town council. This council helps manage local matters for the community.
Freedom of the Parish
The "Freedom of the Parish" is a special honour given by the Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council. It's like giving someone the keys to the town, showing great respect. This honour can be given to individuals or even military groups.
Honoured Individuals

Coat of Arms
|
The Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council has its own special symbol called a Coat of Arms. This symbol was officially given to the council on 10th February 1960. It features different images that represent the area. For example, it includes lilies, an anchor, keys, and dolphins. These symbols often tell a story about the town's history or its location by the sea. The motto, "Amoeniora Litora Nostra," means "Our Shores Are More Delightful."
