History of Macisvenda
We don't have much information about how Macisvenda first started. The earliest record we have is from 1750. It appeared in a special land survey called the "cadastre of the Marqués de la Ensenada." Back then, it was known by slightly different names like Macilvenda, Macilbenda, or Macirbenda. Over time, the name changed and finally settled on the one we know today: Macisvenda.
Climate and Nature
Macisvenda has a pleasant climate with warm summers and mild winters. This weather helps a lot of different plants grow in the area. The village itself has both flat parts and hilly areas. Many homes are built on small hills.
Even though there are mountains nearby, you can find many types of trees and plants. These include pine trees, date palms, olive trees, and almond trees. But the most important crop here is grapes! The grapes grown in Macisvenda are used to make wine. This wine is then sold right in the village and in parts of the Alicante province. The mountains and hills also have pine trees and a type of grass called albardín esparto. In the past, esparto grass was a very important source of income for the people of Macisvenda.
Religion and Festivities
For many years, Macisvenda was part of the church parish in Barinas, a nearby village. However, in the early 1900s, the people of Macisvenda built their own chapel. This chapel was dedicated to San Juan Bautista (Saint John the Baptist). Having their own chapel meant Macisvenda could hold its own religious services.
In 1996, the chapel was made into its own parish, separate from the church in Barinas. The church of Macisvenda is located on a high point in the village, close to the road that leads to Barinas.
Local Celebrations
The village celebrates its local festivities in honor of its patron saint, San Juan Bautista. These celebrations take place at the end of August. The most important day of the festival is August 29th. This day celebrates the "Beheading of St. John Bautista."
