History of Mackville
Mackville was first started in 1818. Back then, it was called "Maxville." It got its name from Captain John McKittrick. He was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War and owned the land where the city began. The name changed to "Mackville" in 1826 when a post office opened in the city.

Mackville is located in the eastern part of Washington County. It is situated between two other towns, Harrodsburg and Springfield. The city is mainly found where two roads meet: Kentucky Route 152 and Kentucky Route 433. The total area of Mackville is about 0.4 square miles (1.0 square kilometer). All of this area is land.
