Madeley is a suburb located in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. It's about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Perth's city center. Madeley is part of the City of Wanneroo, which is its local government area.
Before the 1990s, much of Madeley was countryside. People often grew vegetables and fruits for sale, a practice known as market gardening. Starting in 2001, many new homes were built. This caused a huge increase in the number of people living there.
History of Madeley
How Madeley Got Its Name
Madeley is named after George Edward Madeley. He was an early landowner in the area. He was also a member of the Wanneroo Road Board. This board was like a local council that helped manage the area a long time ago.
For many years, this area didn't have an official name. People would just say they lived in Wanneroo. Later, in 1980, the area was officially called Landsdale.
In the late 1990s, plans were made to develop the land. The City of Wanneroo decided to give the western part of this new development the name Madeley. This name was approved in 1998.
