Madhumitha's Journey in Film
Early Life and Education
Madhumitha was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She spent her childhood growing up in Indonesia. Later, she moved to Singapore for her college studies. After that, she went to Los Angeles, USA, to complete her master's degree.
Starting Her Film Career
While she was in Singapore, Madhumitha made several short films. One of these films was very special. It won an award for being the "best of the world" from BBC. She also received the Singapore Student Award for her work.
After her studies, Madhumitha worked for a short time in the USA. She was part of the team that made the famous Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Then, she returned to Chennai, India, to become a full-time film director.
Directing Her First Movies
Madhumitha's first feature film was a romantic drama called Vallamai Tharayo. It starred actors R. Parthipan and Chaya Singh. Even though some people had different opinions about the film, it was very popular. It played in theaters for 100 days! In 2008, the movie won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Family Film. Madhumitha also shared that her film was shown at many international film festivals. One of these was the Newport Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Her second film was a comedy movie titled Kola Kolaya Mundhirika. She worked with the famous writer Crazy Mohan on this film. After a break of five years, Madhumitha released two romantic comedies in 2015. These movies were made in two languages at the same time. In Tamil, it was called Moone Moonu Varthai, and in Telugu, it was Moodu Mukkallo Cheppalante.
