Exploring Magaluf: A Popular Resort Town
Magaluf is one of several towns in the Calvià area, including Palma Nova and Torrenova. It attracts many visitors, especially during the summer months of July and August. During these busy times, you'll find lots of young adults, couples, and families enjoying their holidays.
Seasonal Changes in Magaluf
When winter arrives, from November to March, most of the hotels and resorts in Magaluf close. The town's population during these months mainly consists of people who live there all year round. Just north of Magaluf, you'll find the Palma Nova resort, which is only about a five-minute drive away.
Beaches and Bays
Magaluf is famous for its beautiful white sandy beach. The area also has a main street, often called the "Magaluf strip," where you can find many restaurants. Magaluf and Palma Nova are the biggest resort areas in the Calvià district. They are located on the southwest coast of Majorca, at the western end of the large Palma Bay. The town is about 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) from Palma, the capital city, and the Son Sant Joan International airport.
Island Adventures: Black Lizard Island
A fun challenge for visitors is to swim to Black Lizard Island, also known as Isla de sa Porrassa. This small island is right in the middle of Magaluf Bay. It gets its name because of the many black lizards that live there. The island is about 400 meters (about 1,300 feet) from the beach.
Modernizing the Resort
In 2012, a company called Meliá Hotels International started a project to modernize Magaluf. They invested money to update four hotels right on the beach. This new area is known as the Calvià Beach Resort and opened in June 2012, making the area even more appealing for visitors.
