History of Magas
Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This treaty was signed after the war and meant Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States.
In 1899, the United States government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that the combined population of Magas and another barrio called Playa was 962 people.
