Mahe district facts for kids
Mahe district is one of the four special areas that make up the Puducherry Union Territory in India. A Union Territory is like a state, but it is directly governed by the central government of India. Mahe is very unique because it is the smallest district in all of India by its size! It also has one of the smallest populations among all districts in India.
Mahe is surrounded on three sides by the Kannur district and on one side by the Kozhikode district. Both of these districts are part of the Kerala state. This means that even though Mahe is part of Puducherry, it is located far away from the other parts of Puducherry, right inside Kerala! The Puducherry Union Territory is made up of four separate districts that are not connected to each other.
