Mahesh Kanodia (born January 27, 1937 – died October 25, 2020) was a talented singer and a well-known politician from the state of Gujarat, India. He was famous for his music and for serving his community in government.

Who Was Mahesh Kanodia?
His Early Life and Music Career
Mahesh Kanodia was born on January 27, 1937, in a village called Kanoda. This village is now part of the Patan district in Gujarat, India. He went to school in Ahmedabad for his early education.
For about 40 years, Mahesh Kanodia worked in Gujarati cinema. He was a musician, a singer, and a composer. A composer is someone who writes music. He often performed with his younger brother, Naresh Kanodia, who was also an actor and singer.
His Time as a Politician
Mahesh Kanodia also had a career in politics. He was elected four times to the Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha is one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. He represented the Patan area.
He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His terms as a Member of Parliament (MP) were from 1991 to 1999, and again from 2004 to 2009.
In 2011, a book was published about Mahesh and Naresh Kanodia. It was called Sauna Hridayma Hammesh: Mahesh-Naresh, which means "Always in Everyone's Hearts: Mahesh-Naresh." It shared stories from their lives.
His Later Years
Mahesh Kanodia passed away on October 25, 2020, in Gandhinagar. He had been unwell for several years. His younger brother, Naresh Kanodia, also passed away just two days later.
Awards and Achievements
Mahesh Kanodia received several awards from the Gujarat Government for his work in Gujarati films. Here are some of them:
- Award for Best Music for the film Jigar and Ami (1970–71). He won this as a composer.
- Award for Best Music for the film Tanariri (1974–75). He won this as a composer.
- Award for the second best film for Jog Sanjog (1980/81). He won this as a producer.
- Award for the best music for the film Jog Sanjog (1980/81). He won this as a composer.
- Award for Best Playback Singer for the film Akhand Chudlo (1981/82). A playback singer records songs for actors to lip-sync in movies.
- Award for the best music for the film Laju Lakhan (1991/92). He won this as a composer.
Family Life
Mahesh Kanodia married Uma on January 1, 1960. They had a daughter named Pooja, who was also a singer. Sadly, Pooja passed away in 2015. His nephew, Hitu Kanodia, is also involved in politics and is an MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) in Gujarat.
