Gandhinagar (/ɡɑːndɪˈnɑːɡər/) is the capital city of the state of Gujarat in India. It is located about 23 km north of Ahmedabad, another large city.
Gandhinagar sits on the west bank of the Sabarmati River. It is about 545 km north of Mumbai and 901 km southwest of Delhi. The famous Akshardham temple is also in Gandhinagar. The city was planned by Indian experts, Prakash M Apte and H. K. Mewada. This was because Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.

The city of Gandhinagar was carefully planned in the 1960s. The main architect was H.K. Mewada, who studied at Cornell University. His assistant, Prakash M Apte, also helped a lot with the design.

Gandhinagar has three main seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter. Outside of the monsoon season, the weather is usually dry and hot.
- Summer: From March to May, it's very hot. Temperatures can go from 36 °C to 42 °C.
- Monsoon: From mid-June to mid-September, the southwest monsoon brings humid weather and rain. The city gets about 773.6 mm of rain each year.
- Winter: From December to February, the days are pleasant, but the nights can be quite chilly. The average high temperature is around 29 °C, and the average low is 13 °C. The air is very dry during this time.
Getting Around Gandhinagar
Travel by Air
The closest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. It is about 18 km away from Gandhinagar. This airport offers both flights within India and international flights.
Travel by Rail
Gandhinagar Capital railway station (GNC) is located in Sector 14. Many trains pass through this station. Some main express trains include the Jaipur-Bandra Garib Rath and the Haridwar mail. The Shanti Express also runs through this station.
The Ahmedabad Railway Station (ADI) is a larger train hub about 25 km away. It connects Gandhinagar to many major cities and towns across India.
Metro Train System
The Ahmedabad Metro is building a new line that will connect Gandhinagar with Ahmedabad. This new metro line will be about 22.8 km long. It will make it easier for people to travel between the two cities.
