Mahmoud al-Ayyubi (Arabic: محمود الأيوبي, romanized: Maḥmūd al-Ayyūbī) was an important Syrian politician. He was born in 1932 into a well-known political family in Damascus, Syria. He passed away on October 11, 2013.

Mahmoud al-Ayyubi held several significant roles in the Syrian government. He was a key figure during the time of President Hafez al-Assad.
Early Government Roles
From 1970 to 1971, al-Ayyubi served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Syria. This role is like being a senior helper to the Prime Minister. During the same period, he was also the Minister of Education. As Minister of Education, he was in charge of schools and learning across Syria.
Serving as Prime Minister
One of his most important jobs was being the Prime Minister of Syria. He held this position from December 21, 1972, until August 7, 1976. As Prime Minister, he was the head of the government, working under President Hafez al-Assad. This role involves leading the country's daily operations and policies.
Other Key Positions
Besides being Prime Minister, Mahmoud al-Ayyubi also served as the Vice President of Syria. He was Vice President from February 1971 to August 1976. This is a very high-ranking position, second only to the President.
He was also involved with the Ba'ath Party, which is a major political party in Syria. He was a member of the National Command of the Ba'ath Party. He also served as Vice-President of the National Progressive Front, which is a group of political parties in Syria. He continued to be an important member of the National Command until his death in 2013.
