Maimun Zubair was an important Indonesian religious leader. People often called him Sheikh, Kyai, or Hajji, which are special titles for respected teachers. He was born on October 28, 1928, in Rembang Regency, Central Java. Maimun Zubair was known as a spiritual guide, or "murshid," for a group called Idrisiyya Shadhili in Sarang.
In 1967, he started a special school called Pondok Pesantren Al-Anwar. This school was in his home village of Karangmangu. It helped many young people learn about their faith and other important subjects.
