Maipú is a large city and a special area (called a commune) in Chile. It's located in the Santiago Metropolitan Region and is part of the bigger city area known as Greater Santiago.
Maipú was founded on February 16, 1821. It's famous because a very important battle, the Battle of Maipú, happened here on April 5, 1818. This battle helped Chile become an independent country! Today, Maipú is the second largest commune in Chile, and many middle-class families live here.
